The combat action pistol event is based on similar established competition pistol events like PPC, IPSC, IDPA
and also, a lot of experience by others. Although directed for the civilian shooter, it also allows a level of
training to law enforcement personnel. The event is open to members and nonmembers with all levels of shooting
proficiency.
The main focus is to place the shooter into a decision/reaction stress environment. Target systems used include steel
plate stands, plate rack, dueling tree, turning/tilting targets, mannequins, balloons as well as many others. Props
used include a door (for entry drills and other), various types of cover and the use of a car (for shooting from and
for cover). The techniques of moving and shooting are always used.
Many of the shooting events are timed to increase the stress level and also for the individual to track his/her own
progress. The uses of one-on-one shooting skill drills are frequently used. In addition, the participant may have to
use strong hand or weak hand only.
The use of either semi-automatic or revolver is allowed. Rim fire ammunition is not allowed. It is suggested that the
firearm used be that which will be carried or placed for self defense. Other required equipment include holster with
simple retainment, minimum of three (3) magazines (or speed reloaders), belt retainment for magazines, eye/ear
protection and at least 150 rounds of ammunition.
The use of safe firearm handling and adherence to all shooting/range rules are strictly enforced.
All participants must "sign in" at the range clubhouse before entering the combat range area. A "waiver of release"
will also have to be signed for the event supervisor/RSO before any shooting activity commences.
This is a very safe, fun and educational event.
